actually Churches get HUGE subsidies via tax free status and rules for donations (tax deductions).

All non-profits are tax exempt, not just religious groups. And I don't accept that not taking money away from someone is a tax expenditure. Besides most religous people don't itemize imo, so that deduction isn't worth so much.

IMHO BY FAR the greatest ignorance between these two factions (religion vs science) is BY FAR on the religionists side. By miles and miles. From my viewpoint you need to study history, period.

Couldn't disagree more. A whole false mythology has been written on this ... like the flat earth myth, the whole war between religion and science.

ONE example. TO THIS DAY they claim you need to get absolved from your sins by a priest... he must be involved officially or god doesn't forgive you. I challenge you to find ANYTHING even REMOTELY close to the control and dare I say "spiritual abuse" through creation of guilt that any scientific theory, journal article, etc. has propogated... for what, a thousand years??

I'm not a Catholic and come from a background which has a concept of the "priesthood of believers". I think its a mistake to hold the errors of a particular institution against religion per se.

As for the spiritual abuse of creating guilt, guilt is something humans can and should feel, its a fact of life. The ability to feel guilt is a good thing. Those who can't we call psychopaths.
