Well, what the heck, it has been a boring day. Try to keep up, this is really complicated stuff. I will try to use simple words, don't want to over-tax you.
Let's take the simple case. Soft drinks/sodas/cokes/pop depending on what part of the country you are in. Now, where does the CO2 in these products come from? Transmuted from gold? Elves? Elvis?
No,none of these. It comes from the atmosphere, as strange as it might seem. So, when the CO2 is released into the atmosphere, it results in no net change. This is called "carbon neutral".
Ok, then, what about sparkling wine? The CO2 in this case doesn't come from the atmosphere. At least not directly. It comes from the yeast digesting the sugars in the grape juice. Now, where do the sugars from from? Transmuted from gold? Elves? Elvis?
