Hardship reveals character. If economic hardship leads a parent to abuse a child, that jerk of a parent was no good to begin with.

I'm not sure what you do to eliminate jerks. But hard economic times do make jerks behave more badly. Another reason why the biggest threat to this country has always been the economy.

By the way, I also hear that 40% of all child births in America are out-of-wedlock. There goes the traditional family structure. What's replacing it? The Nanny State?

Nothing is replacing it.
