Why is DAWKINS so "important" to you?

Because he and others like him have respect, recognition, and support from the scientific establishment while ID proponents are condemned as evil.

he's SOMEBODY because he sells books.... he sells books because CREATIONISTS have given him an issue to write about!!
No, he isn't simply concerned with "creationists". He wants all religion to be destroyed. He sells books because there are plenty of people who share that wish.

GUY, you still miss the big picture of my point. Benefactors like him chose science because they perceive that as being the best way to help the most people... SCIENCE that is... NOT religion or supporting a religious order.

I'm sure thats true. Its a shame his contribution was worse than wasted helping Dawkins campaign against religious faith and harm the cause of science in doing so. I can understand why he said "I am also very pleased that Mathematics - the Queen of Sciences according to Gauss - will now be the vehicle for bringing to the public the beauty and excitement of science."

Which I don't disagree with... but the fact is religions have lost much credibility vs science over the past several hundred years. To me the reason is obvious... and in fact people are CORRECT in that assessment of history. Religion must try and get their house in order if they want to be relevant.

I think the loss in credibility vs science over the past couple centuries will turn around in time. It will take a long time though.
