Tommaso, for the record, the government spent every single dollar they took in, and then some, during each fiscal year that clinton was president (ie, total debt from all sources increased every year - there was no total surplus).

the "surplus" is a manipulation that includes *only* public debt and not debt borrowed from within government (like looting social security to pay for programs).

most people don't know this fact, so i like to add it in whenever someone mentions "surplus".

the true national debt rose every single year that clinton was in office and it is verifiable via government sources.

yes, i'm a stickler for *truth* because it is one of the most rare commodities on the planet.

i'd also add that clinton did get very close to a total surplus, but at the cost of creating easy money bubblenomics and laying the foundation for the blow up of the world economy we see today.

i'm sure you know this nuance, but one or two others might not.
