Europeans are weird.

It is hotter in the American South. Just look at a globe. My current location is about the same latitude as the center of the Sahara desert. It is a lot hotter here than in Italy. My wife's friends from Germany used to schedule visits in August. When warned about the heat, they replied that they liked it when it was hot. But they were thinking Spain, not Northern Africa. Needless to say, they decided they didn't like it quite so hot...

Are Southerners more lazy than they rest of the country? Granted, most Southern states are poorer. But that is more correlated with much of the South is still rural. The metroplexes are not nearly as poor and probably stack up favorably with similar areas in other parts of the country.
