Europeans are weird.

It is hotter in the American South. Just look at a globe. My current location is about the same latitude as the center of the Sahara desert. It is a lot hotter here than in Italy. My wife's friends from Germany used to schedule visits in August. When warned about the heat, they replied that they liked it when it was hot. But they were thinking Spain, not Northern Africa. Needless to say, they decided they didn't like it quite so hot...

Spain and Italy have a Mediterranean climate like CA. Much drier, humidity wise, than TX and that makes the heat much more tolerable. Plus, when Germans go to Spain, they spend their days on the beach playing, not working, with few if any clothes on.

Are Southerners more lazy than they rest of the country? Granted, most Southern states are poorer. But that is more correlated with much of the South is still rural. The metroplexes are not nearly as poor and probably stack up favorably with similar areas in other parts of the country.

I don't think southerners are lazier but I do think southerners [outside the cities] don't put as much of a premium on education as northerners and westerners do. I think that contributes significantly to the economic gap between the three regions. Do you disagree?
