Jack, I just noticed your statement about the Jerusalem zoo.
Yes! Now you get the concept. Anyway, I had a very saintly
friend, who truely was, but she and I were the opposite ends
of the political structure and had never changed too much
as a result of our conversions. I was still leaning right, she was leaning left, being a Berkeley graduate, and working wiht
some inner city thing in Los Angeles. We were kind of
arguing about it in very subdued tones, me nicely telling
her why she was wrong, and her nicely telling me I should
be down in the city working with inner city programs, you know,
that kind of thing, and I told her that I would prefer to
work in an inner city zoo, because I loved animals and could
hardly cope with human behavior anymore, and said something
about, in fact, that I was going to ask God for a separate
planet all to myself where I could live with lions and tigers
and bears and have all the animals I wanted. She just smiled
and said...."I'll come visit you." And we never argued again.
It was just a nice little moment. |
