Most who 'ok-ed' it, including Rumsfeld and Cheney, apparently had no idea of the history of waterboarding, how we prosecuted its proponents as war criminals after WWII, and how it was a favor weapon used by communists on our captured troops.

And the 'saved in LA' is a dubious claim by those smack dab in the middle of the torture prosecutorial path.

Bottom line: it is un-American. If you want to see people tortured to ensure the safety of the current regime, simply move to North Korea, Myanmar, China, or some other repressive country you must similarly admire.
