Or maybe, Manzanar? Missed Manzanar. Having lived in Incline Village for a while, I'm familiar with 395 as the winter route from Tahoe/Reno to LA. Took several visitors down 395 to Yosemite village. On our year long National Park and Battlefield tour, we bracketed Manzanar but missed it. We got to Sequoia, Yosemite and Death valley National Parks, even went to visit a favorite aunt from my Oklahoma days who retired in Bishop. She told us the most excitement she ever saw in Bishop was after the Wal-Mart opened and they started announcing blue light specials. Said she got a phone call telling her about every one of them. I agree those prison like encampments are important to remember because they set an evil precedent. But the Japanese camps located here were not killing fields. In our lifetime the move from encampment to killing field has been done so often and by so many countries we dare not fail to think of them in the same thought, even here. Perhaps the most frightening part of this discussion is how often countries have established such slaughter houses to kill citizens of their own country.
