GM declares bankruptcy and closes down half of its divisions. It survives, but in a much different form than what we're used to. The devil is in the details, but I think the economy can adapt.

By the way, this is similar to the "Good GM, Bad GM" plan being floated around, except that the "Bad GM" gets liquidated.


And which you just claimed wouldn't work.

Can you imagine what happens to the midwest if GM goes down? Not just the direct employs or the supplier employs, but the places where those folks spend money. It's a regional depression, and that's hard to control geographically. Mortgage and credit card defaults, making the banks even more vulnerable. We are all interconnected; all those people and businesses buy Intel computers.

This isn't a minor, ideological issue. This is the quality of the rest of your life, and mine.
