Two reasons why there are 700 dissenters:

1) First, you have to distinguish between top atmospheric scientists and other scientists. Understanding GW is more complicated than building a nuclear bomb, so only a few of the best atmospheric scientists in the world have a firm grasp of global warming, just as only a few people could fgure out how to build a nuclear bomb in the 40's.

And we should be listening to these people!

So just as asking uncle Ned, as he leans on his hoe, about how to build a nuclear bomb is ridiculous, so asking the average person, or even scientist, about global warming is ridiculous.

My son in law says there is little dissent among the top atmospheric scientists.

2) We are a polarized species e.g. left/right. E.G I have almost never seen BCB defend an idea from the left-lol.

Most conservatives do not believe in global warming, pro choice, evolution, do not like stem cell research, do not blieve gays are born gay, and are against gay marriage and lately have been defending torture.

So finding 700 scientists who are either conservative or are involved in the oil or coal industry, or are connected politically against GW is pretty easy, but a bogus claim.

The scientific community has a collective opinion about global Warming. And whoes opinion do you think trumps theirs?

If they have such a "collective opinion" why do we have 700 scientists coming out and expressing dissent?

The over 700 dissenting scientists are now more than 13 times the number of UN scientists (52) who authored the media-hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers. The 59 additional scientists hail from all over the world, including Japan, Italy, UK, Czech Republic, Canada, Netherlands, the U.S. and many are affiliated with prestigious institutions including, NASA, U.S. Navy, U.S. Defense Department, Energy Department, U.S. Air Force, the Philosophical Society of Washington (the oldest scientific society in Washington), Princeton University, Tulane University, American University, Oregon State University, U.S. Naval Academy and EPA.
