There is no way to overstate the horror of gun violence in America. Roughly 16,000 to 17,000 Americans are murdered every year, and more than 12,000 of them, on average, are shot to death. This is an insanely violent society, and the worst of that violence is made insanely easy by the widespread availability of guns.

Its a madness that should not be permitted in a civilized society. When Germany had a couple of high school shootings, it tightened up its gun laws. And yet, the US has school shootings on regular basis and we do nothing. If anyone tries to do something, they are met by a force made up of some of the craziest loons in this society and are overwhelmed. I will never understand.
