Rhenium compnay: That whole company is probably built on processing less than 5 tons on Rhenium per year, out of world production of 40-50 tons per year.

About half of that 40 tons is from Chile, from maybe 2-3 mines. A labor strike at copper mines would shut that down.

The Russians evidently have very little, this is one of the few metals where China is not a major producer, and the US Defense stockpile has none.

And it is absolutely essential to making more efficent jet aircraft engines, so the price of oil is a major indirect driver.

Oh, just to make it more romantic and James Bond like, the Russians have a possible source in the remote Kurlie islands.
It's on top of an active volcano ;-)
