<<<What is it that makes us American?>>>

What is it that makes us human beings?

Civilization is only several thousand years old. In that time we have made tremendous progress. Most people living on earth today live in civilized communities.

People generally have learned to live in communities where they do not teach their children to kill people. In the United States and many other advanced nations, we do not even kill our animal companions.

The trend in history is clear. We have learned to live without having to kill each other. This is only several thousand years after having learned to read, write, and invent things like computers and the Internet.

The trend is very clear. The day will come when we have made killing each other unnecessary. If you just look at the trend, put it in a graph, you can easily see that people killing people will not exist in a matter of a few years.

But, there is still work to be done. There are still people who support killing for the greater good of their own tribe.

Torturing people is only a childish (or barbaric) extension of killing. There are still many barbarians in our midst.
