I think the D and L isomers are being looked at by pharmas now. Sepracor built a company on developing and patenting homochiral isomers of various drugs that supposedly worked better or had fewer side effects. Their success, I have read, will force pharmas to look at this themselves and not leave an opening for another Sepracor to come along and develop an improved drug.
