Swine Flu Likely Spread To New Zealand

April 26, 2009 8:46 a.m. EST

David Goodhue - AHN Reporter

Auckland, New Zealand (AHN) - New Zealand health officials suspect 10 ill students who just returned from a trip abroad to Mexico have the swine flu.

The students all tested positive for Influenza A, and authorities have sent their test results to the World Health Organization (WHO) to determine whether they contracted the H1N1 virus or swine flu.

New Zealand Health Minister Tony Ryall said Sunday none of the students was seriously ill and they appear to be getting better, according to Xinhuanet.com. The students attend Rangitoto College.

There is concern other passengers on the flight the students were on from Los Angeles may also have the swine flu. Ryall encouraged people on that flight who feel ill to go to their doctor to determine if they have flu-like symptoms.
