As a non-attorney, I've really wondered about the fact AQ isn't a signatory to any of these agreements.

Iraq isn't a signatory either. So according to dumbshit-make-believe attorney JLA, we can torture them with impunity.

Except Article 2 makes it clear how bogus such an assertion would be:

No exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, internal political in stability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture.

"The other guys is an asshole" just isn't an exception.
