What do you do when the sun goes down or under a cloud and/or the wind stops? Energy storage isn't the answer. It requires essentially all of the power plants that would be required without either solar of wind power. This means the investment in power plants doesn't change but you have added the investment wind and solar. You save fuel but not as much as you might think.

The egg crate technology eliminates the danger of a nuclear plant going out of control and a standard design (as is used in France) would reduce costs dramatically.

WRT to waste problem, we could recycle it like they do in France. However, I listened to an interview of the Mayor of Las Vegas a year or so ago and he said he knew the Yuca Mt. project would not be a problem but that the public didn't understand and therefore Las Vegas would become a ghost town. Sounds like we need a little education.
