He was is his early 30's, and was trying hard to climb out of trouble. He did last almost twice as long as most of his classmates.

Life is rough at the wrong end of town. Just means you have to be more vigilant I suppose. The rest of the family aren't impressed by illegal drugs at all. Even more so at this stage.
