Essential government services should be tools under control of the citizens. Socialistic entitlement programs place citizens under control of the government. If I don't like the way the fire department runs I can go to my city manager. If I don't like the way social security runs I can go to h*ll, as long as I keep paying what the government tells me to pay. I believe you mean well but giving up long-term freedom for short-term comfort is Faustian.
