A couple of other things of interest. The infectious disease specialist said that coughing/droplets can be spread for 12 feet. More than I would have guessed.

Also the virus remains in the air once the patient leaves the exam room. So much for seeing your doctor as soon as you have symptoms.

Ideally patients would be examined in isolation rooms (negative air flow.)
Quiz--guess how many of those are in your local hospital?

Or alternatively a virus-filtering mask could be used by the patient so as not to disseminate the virus in the exam room.

All of this is assuming the swine flu is really lethal, which, at present, it isn't.
