"security situation has improved tremendously"

Compared to WHAT? Certainly compared to 2 or 3 years ago, but I don't think it comes anywhere close to how secure people felt before we ever went in there.

I know the Kurds feel much better about things, but I'm not so sure about the rest of the country.

Christians, the ones that haven't been killed or driven out are constantly in fear for their lives, because unlike under Saddam, nobody is protecting them anymore.

Shiites, especially women, in Southern Iraq have had to become a lot more pious whether they wanted to or not. A woman in "Western dress" in Basra would be lucky to survive long without getting beaten, maybe killed.

The Sunnis, the ones that haven't already left the country are waiting for the next shoe to drop after the U.S. pulls out of their areas and their "local Sunni militias" are displaced by the NEW Iraqi Army and police made up predominantly by the new Shiite majority.
