The local solution here for your shingle problem is to use dark charcoal or black shingles.

We are now looking at a metal roof. Have 2 bids so far - one is $650 per square (10'x10'), the other is $1,000. Granted these are for top quality, standing seam, no exposed fastener style, but
I am sure we can get it done for much less. Meeting with another installer next week.
If I am wrong, we will go back to the timberline shingle.

I am interested in the metal roof because they now have an adhesive backed, very thin solar panel designed for metal roofs. There are other options for the solar panels.
These panels can power the house by day and recharge battery packs for night electricity.

Also getting a bid on a solar H2O heating system. I am guessing about $6,000.

Also getting bids on insulating and sealing the crawl space.
House only has a half basement.

Also only has a half attic space. The rest is a huge cathedral ceiling. Getting a bid on sealing the attic space with insulating spray foam and doubling the ceiling insulation.

It has original 30 yr old Pella windows, having them evaluated too.
Have selected Pella's best sliding patio door set, metal clad in dark green, for exit to the screen porch, and a new Pella fiberglass front door. This door has higher R-value than solid wood.

Locked in on primary paint colors yesterday. All trim, except doors will be Sherwin Williams Latte. Most walls will be Kilim Beige. My office will have 2 walls in beige and 2 in SW Red Tomato. I have that now and luv the madness of it. Bathrooms will get a different treatment.

Interior doors will be a pine 2-panel sold by Lowes, with brushed nickel Schlage european style door locks. Doors will be finished in varathane (instead of polyurethane) to prevent yellowing.

This job is getting set up fast. It needs to - start day is June 1.
