First draft: Where's Obama?

Today's an unsual day for President Barack Obama. The ubiquitous president is not publicity shy, and normally his daily schedule includes several opportunities for public speeches, or at least comments to the media or to an audience that includes the press.

Not today. According to Obama's schedule, he has several meetings but has no plans to talk to the press. Or to anyone except behind closed doors.

An excerpt of his schedule shows he and Vice President Joe Biden will meet with Democrats on the Energy and Commerce committees to talk about energy independence, health care reform and other legislative priorities. Lots of weighty topics….But no press allowed.

Then Obama meets with Israeli President Shimon Peres in the Oval Office. Once again - no press. A later meeting with senior advisers …closed to the media as usual.

Maybe he's leaving the speaking to his vice president. Biden has a 9:30 a.m. speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's annual policy conference.

But it could all change. Lots going on today — banks are waiting for results of the stress tests , the deadly flu virus has infected more than 1,100 people around the world and the administration is gearing up for talks with leaders from Afghanistan and Pakistan.
