Not one reason. People were starting to murmur about needing a change before 2006. More awareness and dissatisfaction with Iraq was sinking in. The media had become mostly negative about American operations so that a national battle fatigue was settling in. Some of them were influenced by the Bush lied lie, some thought Iraq would be a quick done deal like the first gulf war and became disenchanted by the reality of that monumental effort. The costs were starting to be felt in their pockets, we lost control of our nations borders. Mostly the Rs became too confident that the left didn't have real alternatives to challenge what they were doing. People were waiting to be shown a vision of a bright future but no one spoke up, we couldn't even get answers about where this was all leading. Just assurances that the Rs were making us safer.

We wanted to know where this was all going. We couldn't even get a clear definition of success in Iraq. How would these sacrifices make their lives better and what would the future look like, they just heard more doom and gloom from both sides with the left wingers pointing fingers.

Katrina was awful but most reasonable people didn't blame the government. People like you were already full of hate and it was obvious you were and still are exploiting that situation unduly. If you could step out of your skin and see how you treat an great lady like Condoleeza you would know that instantly. It's obvious to any objective observer.

By 2006 people were tired of the painful status quo, real or mythical, and ready to restart or to start moving toward something different, something focused, purposeful and hopeful. Even though congress changed, they didn't really take an active part and they were disappointed over time with that outcome. With Obama they are saying, 'he's got the message we asked for so ok second chance to get out of the rut, let's all help push this time.'
