Techie,

I agree with the following 4 points:

Summary:

* time to market is important
* product cost is important
* real estate is important
* power consumption is important

******************************************************************
BTW: Have you gone to work for WSTL or Paradyne?

<<< No telco is going to wait around for products that are in the drawing boards.>>>

And I suppose WSTL and Paradyne have a couple 100 thousand ready to
just hand over tomorrow and deploy ?

<<< What concerns me now is the fact that by the time DMT is truely competitive, many more players with much more muscle will be in the market with their version of ADSL and the playing field will be a lot more competitive than it is today.>>>>

<<< USRX has a great deal of expertise in DSP. Remember what they said back in the spring about 'it will take us no more than 6 months to bring a product to market'?
Anyhow, if we assume they have started working on it they may surprise us all. We know for sure ASND has been working on it since spring and neither one of these 2 have made an attempt to buy a company so far, nor have they made a product announcement. But that doesn't mean they aren't working on it.>>>

If companies (Bigger Fish) do produce DMT modems they will be buying some of Amati's Technology IMHO. You don't develop an ANSI standard DMT modem overnight or in 6 months without help.

<<<< By the way, I heard Orckit may be doing CAP as well as DMT, so now we have just AWRE & AMTX committed strictly to DMT. The list of CAP licensees is growing much faster than DMT licensees. This doesn't mean they won't license DMT sometime in the future, but it does indicate they all think CAP will be the winner in phase one. I have to believe these companies know something more than we do. >>

I believe that Europe and the world knows more than the companies licensing CAP!

Unfortunately the U.S. has a large dumb consumer base.

I have not seen anything thus far to verify Orckit CAP connection.

Ok ! I admit (as if it were not already known ;-) I'm bias on DMT. But has WSTL kidnapped, and brainwashed you? Just kidding!

Your points are valid. I guess it's depends which side of the two way mirror your on. I see you, can you see me?

<<< My question is if buying was the approach they would take, why didn't they go after Aware or Orckit prior to the IPOs? >>>

Yes strange ?

P.S. Do you know a Bill Shoultz ? (last name probably misspelled)
