"I love the subject of science -- as a learner and a teacher -- but science for all its bravado and supposed "objective" view (claims to not be man-centric -- ha!!) can never reach the questions of purpose -- science is only really descriptive."

life is the standard of value, ie, our basic alternative is to live or die, and our choices have a large impact on our ability to survive....JDs note on our current economic situation provide some interesting examples of the issues we need to consider...interestingly, the Bible takes same approach, ie, the after life is the reward of virtue...the religious folks just place the empaphasis on life after death rather than on life in this world...(strange)

'enter ye in at the strait gate, for narrow is the path that leadeth to salvation, and few there be that find it...broad is the way that leadeth unto destruction'....my paraphrase..
