Hello Pat,

>>>You quote a rumor, "I heard Orckit may be doing DMT. . .

The information about Orckit possibly doing CAP in addition to DMT is from a Dataquest report dated August 1996. I put more weight on information coming from Dataquest than some people we both know. Here is an exact quote from their report:

"Orckit is considering developing its own version of CAP chipsets and is also participating in the VDSL space in partnership with Harris Semiconductor Inc. for chips. "

Now you may chose to consider this a rumor, but it's certainly less of a rumor than some of the info we have received recently. Anyhow, I expect to see a mention of this in the prospectus. I haven't been able to get a copy on Edgar so far, did you manage? I will also be meeting Orckit management on 9/11 during the road show and on 9/12 one on one. I expect the topic would come up.

>>> then you say, "so now we have AWRE and AMTX committed solely to DMT," a large leap in logic.

Can you name another company that's doing just DMT? If you know any others we would all be glad to hear about them.

>>>You go on to say, "CAP licensees [are] growing faster than DMT," another rather large leap.

Pat, this is a fact. Check it out for yourself. Telechoice has the list and I have one from Dataquest as well. Trust me it's a lot longer than the DMT licensee list.

>>>Looked at from another angle, how many companies only do CAP, with no DMT hedge? Any besides Paradyne?

Yes, many including NT, one of the largest integrators in the world. To get a good idea of who is doing CAP before they try DMT, check the licensee list. I think it's as good an indicator as any before they come out with product announcements.

>>> CAP *may* be gaining converts, but until I have stronger reasons to believe otherwise, I'll remain a skeptic.

Well Pat, I felt as strongly about DMT as anyone else. But I now feel I have to face facts and admit CAP will be the winner in phase one. I seriously doubt Amati management would argue the opposite. Perhaps you can get their opinion on this issue and let us know what they think.
