There was a trashy novel cum TV movie with a similar theme. A beautiful woman was loved by a not so beautiful but rich plastic surgeon. She fooled around on him and basically treated him badly. Then she made the mistake of asking him to give her an eye job or something like that. He then proceeded to irrevocably ruin her face so that he would be the only man willing to be with her. She wore a veil for the rest of the movie. The only difference in the Edwards' plot is that the bandages were applied much lower by the wronged spouse.
