The varathane I've used is for furniture. Works great on doors.
Did a set of Alder wood and another of Pine wood doors with it years ago.
Finish is similar to polyurethane but does not yellow.

I would not recommend varathane for floors. I've heard a number of problems about doing that.
We have had excellent results from the water based floor finishes professionally applied. If it smells real bad for a day or two you will know you got the right stuff.

Yesterday, my favorite flooring supplier and installer talked me into switching from Pergo American Cottage to an Armstrong product. Brings the job down $1,200 and he swears there is no difference.
I compared the products side-by-side and found they look like they were made in the same plant.

The only difference is 30 year warranty on the pergo, 25 for the armstrong. I doubt I'll see the end of either.
