"...making sure that every census taker actually visits the house they are surveying instead of fudging data..." True. I'm embarrassed to say but I just finished a stint as a census enumerator. I needed the money. The GPS map spots verify that we actually walked our blocks and (hopefully) knocked on doors. In the past, the Census Bureau had no easy way of ensuring that enumerators actually knocked on doors or just sat at home and filled out paperwork. The hand held computers, btw, helped complete this stage of the census in less than half the time it took in prior rounds.
