Capital One Financial Corp. (COF) on Friday registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission to sell from time to time an indeterminate amount of debt securities, preferred stock, depositary shares, common stock, purchase contracts, warrants or units.

In addition, four capital trusts of the company may sell from time to time an indeterminate amount of trust securities and use the proceeds to purchase debt securities from Capital One Financial.

The bank holding company said it intends to use the net proceeds for general corporate purposes, including reduction of short-term debt, possible acquisitions, investments in or extensions of credit to subsidiaries and investments in securities.

No underwriters were listed in the filing.

Shares of the company closed Friday at $31.34 each, up $4.89, or 18.49%.
