Re: Rumors

<<My friend told me this individual claims intc is going to make a significant announcement about a new product at the upcoming comdex. This person claims to know intel folks at the Folsom facility that indicated this new product would devastate Cyrix and AMD.>>

It's always hard to invest in a company where you don't work. Even if you work for Intel, many (most?) insiders also have a distorted view of their own company and make poor investment decisions (Grove sold at 74 - at least 9 points below the peak).

As far as I can see, Intel is doing everything right. They're neglecting the low end of the market by refusing to develop a CPU integrated with other functions, but other than that, I can't see how they can improve their situation (develop more software?).

<<However, the same individual told my friend that ibm held a significant ownership interest in intc.>>

IBM bought 5% of Intel in the mid-80's when it looked like the Japanese were going to put Intel out of business. They sold all their shares a few years ago. I don't think they have any more, but you can check the 13-G's at EDGAR. Just look for the registrant (IBM). If you don't see one, they probably don't own any shares.
