About a year ago, I saw Dr. Hecht-Nielsen (the "H" in HNC) give a presentation on some of the research his group was doing on scene analysis (i.e scanning, locating, and identifying objects within a scene). These guys are working on some serious cutting-edge technology. He mentioned how their work could be used for military applications (i.e. intelligent, autonomous missles seeking out tanks) as well as commercial applications (i.e. intelligent, autonomous vacuum cleaners with the smarts to avoid furniture and clothing on the floor). It seemed that they were making great strides towards making this stuff robust enough for the real world. This is a company that definitely should be watched.
