Powell commanded a rifle platoon Viet Nam. After that he just rose through the ranks by selection of other than soldiering.
I give him credit for working as a young officer in Viet Nam.

However in the General ranks he was lazy. Swartzkofp prosecuted Desert Storm. Powell was in the shadows. Bush 41 made him and he never did another thing.
