Going back to 8? I don't know what makes you think that. But the VIX has never been that low. The VIX reached 9.39 in December 2006, 9.88 in July 2005, and 9.31 (the lowest reading ever) in December 1993. So three times it registered in the 9-10 range in the last 20 years, but it has never been lower than 9. Actually, the current readings of about 31 are not far from the median level historically. WS
