Kids internalize community values. It did no good to tell kids of the forties and fifties, smoking was bad for them. It was cool, the movies said so, the adult role models demonstrated it and the culture of coke and smoke proved to them that it was rewarding.

Why offer an education at all, if we are just going to let kids think about things and the consequences to determine their path in life. They will think that joining gangs to bully other kids and take what ever they want by force works. It worked for the Spartans. Just throw them to the dogs and let them figure it out.

Why would they think otherwise? They would think otherwise if guided by responsible adults who model and encourage noble endeavor for good and conscionable purposes.
