They tried the same with the Abramoff investigation. I think this is just another case of them believing their own propaganda. They think that the R's are all about following the law and the D's are only interested in power. So when their guys get their hands caught in the cookie jar, all they have to do is threaten to drag some D's in and the investigation will be dropped.

The fact that it never works shows you exactly what kind of loons they are.
