..the US forgot to shrink the power projection and still has world power apparatus.

Which was OK with the rest of the world until Bush demonstrated what could go wrong if an unstable US political regime took over that apparatus.

Going forward, the rest of the world is going to have to cough up a lot more of their own blood and treasure if they want to keep the world safe.

The US taxpayer and his descendants is now saddled with an unsustainable burden from protecting the rest of the world for much of the last century.

While the rest of the world would frequently bitch and moan about American hubris, for the most part most felt quite comfortable letting the US assume the bulk of the cost of protecting them against most threats.

Bush blew the economic cushion the US had with stupid wars and the US is no longer able to protect all neighborhoods.

Many of those countries who were able to enjoy enhanced social structures, in lieu of standing armies, will now get to see how they want to allocate resources.

As the US starts to stand down, to the glee of a whole lot of short sighted folks, and reprograms its defenses to those necessary for a country with the inherent safety of an ocean protected giant, the critics can now spend their own cash.
