actually we were ahead of the time. i started with mom's taking paper work home to process orders back in 1965. of course never with company knowledge.. it let mom get home do her things and then settle down for an hour or two and process orders.. of course we are taking manual calculations etc.

in early 80's you did not have the phone lines or pc equipment to process at home. i did arrange for massive failure in the office to switch lines within minutes from central region to east coast and had assigned people to handle phones. back then it was leap year stuff. Later, since my operation was national we required coverage in major snow storms etc. Later in 80's i did get it so we could forward our phone system to home phones. We had a few people set up to handle and process phone calls during snow emergencies.. mostly it would be from central and west coast if we were were having a northeastern.

my next step was to have distributors check on line inventory availability vs call us Plus have them enter their own orders on line. I got a big reject from management on that one! i retired shortly after and never looked back. g
