This was taped before last night's excruciating "blame Bush" climbdown, so how that affects Newt's calculus about her staying on we'll have to wait to see.

I cannot imagine how Newt's take will be any different from Karl Rove's, which was, "What is Pelosi saying now? That the CIA told her the truth, but some Bush administration official lied to her? The Sept 2002 intelligence briefing she is talking about was done by the CIA." One interesting bit of information I gleaned from Newt's interview with Gretta van Susteren was that Congressmen cannot take notes in classified briefings. But Pelosi, who has gone through about five different stories by now, is in too deep to say, "Never mind. I misremembered."

She is damaged goods. The beauty part, for conservatives, is that they don't have to do a thing; the CIA knows how to take revenge. Rove and Gingrinch can keep up the commentary, while Congressional Republicans need say very little.

And where will President Obama be? Somewhere else, I suspect, ignoring the matter for as long as possible.
