Any change would have to grandfather in existing and near SS recipients. That shouldn't be an issue.

I'm 55. My whole adult life people have advised me not to expect to receive SS. There is no excuse for people my age or younger not to have prepared for retirement without SS. I have always regarded the pay role tax as just another tax that I receive no benefit from.
