Just read a new LiON-air battery that has 10 times the theoretical capacity of today's LiON batteries. They plan to be available commercially in 5 years.

Capacity would be nice, but rapid charging capability, affordability, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, LONGEVITY, is the key if they are to completely replace fossil fuel technology.

But guess what, just because they are commercially available for electronic purposes (laptops.. etc), car manufacturers will take 3-5 years MORE to test them for their applications since their cars have to have a service life of at least 10years/100K miles.

So I'm not going to get too excited yet. But I agree that things are promising 10-20 years out.

But that doesn't fix the energy situation we now have.
