April home sales jump in Southern California

SAN FRANCISCO, May 19 (Reuters) - Home buyers in the market for foreclosed properties pushed home sales in Southern California up 5.2 percent from March and 31.4 percent from a year earlier, MDA DataQuick said on Tuesday.

A total of 20,514 new and resale houses and condominiums sold in Southern California in April, marking ten consecutive months of sales gains in the region, according to MDA DataQuick. The real estate information service said the region's April median home price fell 1.2 percent from March and 35.8 percent from a year ealier to $247,000, its lowest level since Febraury 2002.
