Peter, i will double check the claim of 25% more compensation. i'm sure it includes medical and their 90% pension, too, so you need to know more information. i heard it on the radio and i will confirm or deny it with more information.

perhaps the host confused 25% above average with 25% above second place or maybe the pensions and other bennies actually push it to 25% above 2nd place.

what are the pension rates in CT, NJ and NY? Can they retire at 52-53 with 90% of their pay for life? Do they get
$0 out of pocket medical - no deductible, no premium, no copay?

let's take your stat, though. CA teachers make 25% more than the national average in salary. does that square with being near the bottom on education spending?

the education system in CA gets about 50% of the CA budget - that's over $50 billion a year.
