No hate crime law is required, but it sure is nice to have it. It's not like being republican has been criminalized. You just can't victimize protected classes. Obviously you're worried that republicans can't step up to the plate on this- maybe you're selling your peeps short. Maybe, just maybe, they can control themselves when it comes to victimizing others- either with speech or action. Of course maybe they can't, but gosh, isn't finding out exciting?
