Like I said, it may not happen now, but these "lifestyle" taxes are no longer an impossibility. The soda tax would never have been considered by the Senate a decade ago.

The real push though will come if/when the health care programs cost more than forecast. Cutting care wont be a palatable option and it is generally easier to raise these little excise taxes than to raise the marginal rates....at least that is the case at the local and state level in Illinois.
