LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/19/09 -- Universal Detection Technology (www.udetection.com) (OTCBB: UNDT), a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats and provider of counter-terrorism consulting and training services, announced today that it has received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for its automated monitoring of airborne bacterial spores technology. This patent supplements the patent granted in December of 2007 for an apparatus for detecting bacterial spores.

A Notice of Allowance discloses that the USPTO has examined the filed patent and it appears that the applicant is entitled to a patent under the law. Upon the payment of fees, a full patent will be granted to the applicant. The Patent allowance is for the automated monitoring of airborne bacterial spores technology that UDT licensed in 2005.

The patent allowance supplements the patent granted to the Company in 2007 by providing intellectual property rights for the automated detection of airborne bacterial spores. UNDT's BSM-2000 utilizes both technologies in its monitoring of airborne hazards.

"The notice of allowance from the USPTO means that we will soon have a granted patent on the second technology that we have licensed," said Mr. Jacques Tizabi, UNDT's Chief Executive Officer. "We will continue to bolster our intellectual property rights as we add more technologies to our portfolio," he added.
