Its not exclusively a right wing thing. You had similar attacks made about Bush and other Republicans and/or conservatives.

Its not entirely new, I remember something like it from at least when Reagan was president (I paid minimal attention to politics before that mostly because I was a kid), but in the last decade or so it seems worse. Not as bad as some time in our past (with duels between political opponents, and law makers physically attacking each other and such. Its not so much that politics is exceptionally viscous now, as it is that it had gotten a bit more polite than normal for awhile, and it didn't remain that way.

I wouldn't want too much politeness, real political battles have to be fought and sometimes strong language is called for, but at some point being inflammatory becomes counterproductive for the the people who use that tactic (at least in terms of moving their political agenda, perhaps not in terms of getting them attention, and in some cases money), while also having detrimental side effects on the political process in general.

AND no one will buy these cars and so the auto industry will not make profits..... and on and on.

True or not (and I think there is some truth behind some of the statements along those lines), that's an assertion on an issue of political ideas and practical results. Its not an inflammatory personal attack. Its not a dispensing of hate. Its not way over the top or an example of character assassination. Its not "Bush is Hitler", or "Obama is Mao". Its the type of political discussion we need.
